COVID UPDATE 5/19/2020

ALL MEMBER ASSOCIATIONS – FOOTBALL DIRECTORS – CHEER DIRECTORS

On advice of our legal counsel, all GFL conditioning and workouts are hereby POSTPONED until June 25th, 2020. The decision to allow resuming conditioning and workouts will be made in conjunction with our legal counsel and our medical advisory team. This decision to postpone early conditioning and workouts does not affect or alter our current plan to start the 2020 Season as scheduled. Further updates will be made as they develop. Our focus is the HEALTH & SAFETY of our youth. The current conditions and restrictions being imposed on us are not manageable at this time. We have the responsibility to enforce the restrictions and medical guidelines from our medical advisory team and our governing bodies. The magnitude and complexity of these restrictions and guidelines are not manageable by any of our member associations. This decision to postpone was made to protect the health and safety of EVERYONE!! We are in communication with our medical advisory team and will continue to follow their advice as changes are constantly being made. We will continue to keep you updated. We ask that everyone remain patient as we navigate through these uncertain times. Changes are being made daily and we, along with our medical team, remain confident that we will be able to start our 2020 season as scheduled.

Thank you for your continued understanding as we adjust to the circumstances beyond our control!!

MPAA Cheerleading Families:

I know you have all been waiting to get updates on the upcoming season.  I'm sorry I have not been able to get the information to you prior to now.  The problem is that there are still so many unknowns.

GFL is planning to have a Football and Cheerleading season this year. Currently, we are planning to start on time using the schedule that has been published.  Keep in mind that GCPS has not decided if they are going to allow children to return to the classroom this year.  This decision could change things.  Parks and Rec could also make a decision to not open the parks-- if so, we would have no place to play games or hold practices.

Uniforms - the decision has been made for all associations to wear camp wear this year.  I know this is not popular for some, however, it is the best decision for everyone.

This is a way to help those families in our community who have faced tougher times due the recent furloughs and job loss.

Camp wear will also allow you to take registration much later, not having to worry about ordering a uniform and have it back in time. T-shirts have a much shorter turn around time.  Included in your cost of registration you get Cheer Camp, Camp T-shirt, Camp tank top, Camp shorts, Sweatshirt and a Game day bow

I realize this is a huge change but please understand we are struggling through a very unprecedented time. We do not have all the right answers as we have never been through a pandemic and we are trying to make the best decisions for everyone.

Cheer off - GFL is  very encouraged that Infinite Energy Center is allowing graduations to be held in July. Having said that, they remain very hopeful that we will be allowed to hold cheer off in October. Some professionals are predicting this virus to return in the fall ---- so please think positive thoughts that we will not be on lockdown again by then.

The cheerleaders will wear camp wear for Cheer off as well.  Coaches have been provided a bit more information about what options they have for this that will allow us to make this fun for our children.

As far as cool weather, we do have a few options that the coaches will be sharing with their squads.

Keep in mind these changes are ONLY FOR THIS SEASON.

We hope that you join us this season!

Thank you,

Jessie Caldwell
MPAA Cheer Director

A Message from the GFL Board:

First and foremost, we hope this email finds you well and safe. As we all continue to deal with these unprecedented times, we want you to know that the GFL Board has been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming GFL season. Our planning is the same as any other GFL season, but with the addition of how to keep the GFL family safe as we look towards our upcoming season. The safety of the GFL spectators and athletes are of upmost importance.

The GFL along with Northside Hospital Sports Medicine’s team is in the process of looking at what safety measures can be implemented to ensure we are doing our part to try and keep everyone safe and well. All of this is of course contingent on Gwinnett County opening the parks, and any other national, state, or local restrictions put in place. Keep in mind that this is a fluid situation, so restrictions may be put in place that require the GFL to make some changes to the way practices or games are handled. While we fully expect to play a regular season, we have to also be prepared that adjustments may be needed. We will continue to update our GFL family as soon as updates become available.

Thank you all for the continued support of the GFL. We look forward to being back together and on the field soon.
