 GENERAL FAQ’s

How much does registration cost for recreation basketball? And what does it include?
Player registration for the Winter basketball season is $155.00. Included in these fees are insurance, gym rental, officials, registration fees and uniform.

When are practices?
Practices start 1st week of November with games starting on end of November or early December.
The season concludes around the end of January or beginning of February.

What days of the week are practices?
Teams will practice at least one night a week.. Practices are held Monday-Friday

Are practices the same day each week?
Practice nights will vary from week to week depending on the number of teams in the league as well as gym availability.

How many games are played during the season?
Winter – Teams will play a minimum of 10 games with at least one tournament/playoff game guaranteed.

What days of the week are games?
Games are generally held on Saturdays however to ensure teams get the full 10 games, there can be weeknight or Sunday games scheduled during the season.

Where are the practices and games held?
Games and practice can be held at the following:
Camp Creek, Knight, Arcado, and Mountain Park Elementary Schools
Trickum Middle and Parkview High

Can special requests be honored (car pool, coach request, etc.)?
Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee requests such as carpool or coach.

What are the rules of each league?
All leagues follow High School rules except for those specified in the rules grid – please refer to the grid for specific exceptions.

Is there a playing time requirement?
All players are required to play half the game. If the player arrives late to the game, it is the coach’s discretion when the player will go in.

When will I hear from my coach?
You should receive either a phone call or email notification from your coach within 2-3 days of evaluations. Please make sure your numbers and email addresses are correct and your phone is in working order.

What is your inclement weather policy?
Player safety is always our first priority. While we do not have a formal policy, because we use school facilities, we follow their closure policy. If schools close because of inclement weather, practices and/or games will be canceled as well. Practices will not be rescheduled. Games may be rescheduled depending on what point of the season the closure occurs. E-mail communication will be sent as well as posted to our website should inclement weather happen. Please refer to your coach for the most update info on inclement weather.

What is the refund policy?
Normally we do not offer refunds, however we realize events occur that prevent your player from participating in the league. Refunds are at the discretion of the Basketball Director. Once games begin, we are unable to provide refunds.

What types of payment do you accept?
All payments should be made online thru our registration system. Other forms of payments will be at the discretion of the Basketball Director.

LEAGUE RULES FAQ’s

Can my child play up a league?
We have let parents allow their children to play up to the next age level. Talk to your League Director for approval.

What size goal is used in the leagues?
Please refer to the rules grid.

What size ball is used in the leagues?

BOYS Ball Size
Boys 1st-3rd  Grade Youth size 5/ 27.5
Boys 4th & 5th Grade Size 6/ 28.5
Middle & High School Boys Size 7/ 29.5 (official size ball)
GIRLS
Girls 1st-4th grade Youth size 5/ 27.5
Girls 5th & up Size 6/ 28.5 (official women size)

 

What color uniform does the home team wear?
The home team wears white and that team (parent) is responsible for keeping the official book during the game.

What color uniform does the visiting team wear?
The visiting team wears BLUE and that team (parent/volunteer) is responsible for keeping the clock during the game.

What’s the minimum number of players needed to start a game?
Four (4) players is the minimum number needed to start and play a game. Additional players can enter the game as they arrive.

Will there be All-Star teams and/or an All-Star Game?
Yes, there is an All-Star game. Players and coaches are nominated to participate and you will be contacted if your player has been nominated to be on the All-Star team for their league by your coach.

When is the all-star tournament?
Specific dates vary by year but generally the tournament is sometime after the last championship game of the season.

How many players are put on a team?
8-10 players are put on a team, this ensures coverage should teammates have to miss games as well as ensuring playing time requirements are met.

GBL FAQ’s

What is GBL?
GBL is a highly competitive league that falls under the umbrella of the MPAA Recreation program. It is not the same as the Recreation program. These teams will be filled by open try-outs and not all attending will be selected. Games will be played on Saturday’s and Sunday at Suwanee Sports Academy and around the Gwinnett County area. Teams will play grade level teams from other Gwinnett County Cluster programs including Collins Hill, Mill Creek etc.

When is the GBL season?
The GBL season starts mid-November and ends early March. Refer to the GBL website
(www.gwinnettbasketballleague.org) for more information.

How does my child try out for GBL?
Tryouts for the 2016-2017 season were held Sunday Sept 11th.

How can I contact someone with Mountain Park Basketball?
If you aren’t able to find an answer to your question on our FAQ page, send us an e-mail through our “Contact Us” tab on the website. Turnaround time is usually 24-48 hours so please wait until that time has passed before reaching out via phone to any Board Member.
